On January 20 Renaissance completed the second and final step of passport to success with this years freshmen class. All of the freshmen were ushered into our gym to dress up in cap and gown and take a photo as a look into their future as graduates of Monrovia High School. After everyone's picture had been taken, our principal Mr. McGinnis gave a motivating speech about how important it is to work hard and graduate. After, our very own Renaissance coordinator Mr. Dols also stressed the importance of graduating high school. The class of 2020 left the gym feeling inspired and ready to succeed. Renaissance now plans to send a photo of each student to their parents, as a way to make sure that the importance of graduating is recognized by the whole family. We can't wait to repeat Passport to Success again next year, so watch out class of 2021!

We had the honor of embarking on a journey to Temecula to hear Mike Smith speak. We sat with numerous other Renaissance classes in a huge gym to hear not only the inspiring life story of Mike, but interesting points of view from Phil Campbell and other Renaissance figures. Stories shared were touching, inspiring, and genuinely fun. Every student was clearly excited to meet THE Mike Smith. Students took pictures with him, he gave out prizes, and we all danced and even did a mannequin challenge. Mike Smith explained to us his upbringing and how he was imspired to create his nonprofit. Watching his Harbor videos in class, our Renaissance class was familiar with his opinions and points of view. This trip we went on was not only a great time, but inspiring and eye-opening. Monrovia Renaissance thanks Mike Smith and the others who presented and put this great day together for giving us an experience we will cherish together!

Members of our varsity volleyball team getting ready to walk across the field for scholar athlete night. Congrats to the girls who won Rio Hondo League Champs and are now playing in CIF! Scholar Athlete Night took place Friday October 21, 2016. The Renaissance program celebrated over 100 athletes with a GPA of at least 3.5 or above.
Recently, Renaissance embarked on an inspirational journey to the yearly CARE Conference. Students went to several breakout sessions where different schools throughout the region presented their Renaissance ideas and customs. Students were encouraged to take notes and gather information and ideas to incorporate in our school. We had our own group of student leaders put together a power point to present at a breakout session. Our focus was PRIDE and how our school organizes this added class. This conference is a great opportunity for students to learn what it means to be a leader and to be inspired.
